Vrindavan alone is estimated to have more than 5,000 temples, and together with Mathura the twin towns hold several thousand, most of them dedicated to Radha and Krishna. Best time to visit the Mathura Vrindavan temples

The best time to visit is October to March, when the weather is cool enough for temple-hopping on foot, with Janmashtami (August or September) and Holi (February or March) the most vivid festival windows, and also the most crowded. Early mornings and evenings give the calmest darshan; temples generally close through the middle of the day.

Temple map and visitor tips

Most of Vrindavan's famous temples sit within a compact old-town core, so a temple map helps: Banke Bihari, Radha Vallabh, Radha Raman and the Goswami temples are all a short walk of each other, with Prem Mandir and ISKCON on the outskirts and easy to reach by auto. Mathura's temples cluster near the Janmabhoomi and the Yamuna ghats, about twelve kilometres away. We include a walkable temple map on the linked temple pages so you can plan the order of darshan.

    Modest, traditional attire is expected; cover shoulders and knees.

A guide's honest note

If it is your first trip and you only have a day in Vrindavan, do not try to see all fifty temples. Start early at Banke Bihari before the lanes fill, take in the nearby ancient temples on foot, and keep Prem Mandir for the evening light show. In Mathura, the Janmabhoomi and the Vishram Ghat aarti are the two you should not miss. The rest reward a slower, repeat visit, which is exactly why people keep coming back to Braj.
