Mathura & Vrindavan
Both Mathura and Vrindavan run on temple time, not clock time. Nearly every major temple, from Banke Bihari and Prem Mandir to ISKCON and the Krishna Janmabhoomi, keeps two darshan windows a day and closes for a long break in between. The grid below carries exact darshan and aarti times for 33 temples across Mathura, Vrindavan, Govardhan, Nandgaon, Gokul and Barsana, with a summer or winter toggle on every card. Read the short guides underneath to plan the day around the closures rather than against them. Experience My India has guided more than 50,000 pilgrims through this exact circuit since 2018.
Updated for 2026. Both summer & winter schedules included.

Right now, most temples are open if the local time falls between about 5:00 AM and 12:00 noon or between 4:00 PM and 9:00 PM. Almost every major temple in both towns closes from 12:00 noon to 4:00 PM so the deities can be bathed, dressed and offered bhog, and no amount of queuing gets you in during that window.
A few places stay open through the middle of the day and are the ones to know when you land at an awkward hour. Dan Ghati at Govardhan runs continuously from 6:00 AM to 9:00 PM. Shri Birla Mandir in Mathura reopens early at 2:00 PM, and Nand Bhavan in Gokul also reopens at 2:00 PM. If you arrive in the closure window, these plus the ghats and a slow lunch are how to spend it.
The published time is when the gate opens, not when you reach the deity. Add the shoe counter, and at the Krishna Janmabhoomi the security queue, and you are usually inside about 30 minutes after opening. Festivals such as Janmashtami, Holi and Ekadashi move the hours and swell the crowds. Experience My India calls ahead each morning and shares the day's exact hours with every group. Yes. Most Mathura Vrindavan temples shift their opening by 30 to 60 minutes between seasons, opening earlier in summer while the morning air is cool and later in winter. The evening session slides the same way, opening earlier in winter as the light fades sooner.
Banke Bihari is the sharpest example. It opens a full hour later in winter than in summer, so a pilgrim who reads a summer time in December stands at a locked gate for an hour. ISKCON is the opposite case and a useful anchor: its aarti schedule, from Mangla at 5:00 AM to Sayan at 8:00 PM, holds the same all year. The two transition stretches, late February and late October, are when the printed hours are least reliable.
The quickest way to be sure is to switch any card above to summer or winter for that temple. For the two most seasonal temples in Vrindavan, our full seasonal splits sit on the Banke Bihari temple timings guide and the Radha Raman temple timings guide.
Beyond the two main towns, the wider Braj circuit keeps its own hours, and these are the temples first time visitors most often reach at the wrong time.
At Govardhan, Dan Ghati is the easy one, open right through from 6:00 AM to 9:00 PM with Mangla Aarti at 4:00 AM. Shri Mukharvind keeps the usual split, 7:30 AM to 12:30 PM and 4:30 PM to 8:30 PM.
At Nandgaon, Shri Nand Baba Mandir opens 7:00 AM to 1:00 PM and again 3:00 PM to 9:00 PM, a shorter midday break than most, so the early afternoon is workable here.
In Gokul and the villages around it, Shri Gokul Temple opens 7:30 AM to 10:30 AM and 3:00 PM to 8:30 PM, while Nand Bhavan runs 5:00 AM to 12:00 noon and reopens at 2:00 PM until 9:00 PM. These lie apart from one another, so they reward a planned route rather than a casual add on to a Mathura or Vrindavan day. Our Same Day Govardhan Barsana Tour is built around exactly these outer timings.
Most temples open around 5:00 AM, close from 12:00 noon to 4:00 PM, and reopen until between 8:30 PM and 9:30 PM. Hours move 30 to 60 minutes with the season. Check any card above for a specific temple.
Almost all major temples in both towns close from 12:00 noon to 4:00 PM for bhog and rest. The exceptions that stay open are Dan Ghati at Govardhan, and Birla Mandir and Nand Bhavan, which reopen at 2:00 PM.
Yes. Most temples shift by 30 to 60 minutes, opening earlier in summer and later in winter. Banke Bihari opens a full hour later in winter, while the ISKCON aarti schedule stays the same all year.
ISKCON Krishna Balaram Mandir holds Mangla Aarti at 5:00 AM, Tulsi Aarti at 5:30 AM, Guru Puja at 7:15 AM, Shringar Aarti at 8:30 AM, Rajbhog Aarti at 12:00 noon, Dhoop Aarti at 4:30 PM, Sandhya Aarti at 6:30 PM and Sayan Aarti at 8:00 PM. These hold the same all year.
Shri Krishna Janmasthan opens at 5:00 AM and closes at 12:00 noon, reopening from 4:00 PM to 9:30 PM, with Mangla Aarti at 5:30 AM. Security is strict, so allow extra time at the entrance.
