Panipat to Vrindavan Distance: Routes and How to Travel

By Gurudutt, Experience My India·16 September 2026

Panipat to Vrindavan Distance

Quick Answer

The distance from Panipat to Vrindavan is about 254 km by the fastest route and about 243 km by the shortest; the drive takes roughly four to four and a half hours by the quick route. Interestingly, the fastest way, about 4 hr 12 min, is the route by the Yamuna Expressway, which uses the fast expressways to skirt Delhi, while the shorter route by NH 44, at about 243 km, is slower at about 5 hr 30 min on ordinary roads. Being a medium haul, and a quick one by the expressway, it makes an easy day trip from the historic Haryana city of Panipat to Krishna's Braj. The return, Vrindavan to Panipat, is much the same, about 252 km. All times are approximate.

Panipat to Vrindavan distance: an overview

From Panipat, the historic city of Haryana north of Delhi, the town of Krishna at Vrindavan lies about 243 to 266 km to the south, depending on the route, roughly four to four and a half hours by the quick way. The happy surprise is that the longer route is the faster: the route by the Yamuna Expressway, at about 254 km, uses the fast expressways to skirt Delhi and reaches Braj in about 4 hr 12 min, while the shorter NH 44, at about 243 km, is slower on ordinary roads. Being a quick medium haul, it makes an easy day trip from Panipat to Krishna's land and it lies handy for Kurukshetra, the land of the Gita, nearby. As Panipat is a railway junction, the train is also an option. This guide gives the routes both ways; and if you would like the drive, the darshan and the e-rickshaw arranged, a mathura vrindavan tour with Experience My India can plan your day.

From the ground (Gurudutt): For my guests from Panipat, I give one tip: take the expressway, not the short road. It sounds odd, but the Yamuna Expressway route, though a few more kilometres, is faster, for it slips past Delhi, while the short NH 44 crawls on ordinary roads. So come by the expressway, about four hours, do the Mathura and Vrindavan temples and you have a fine day in Braj. And if you are near Kurukshetra, where Kanhaiya gave the Gita, pair it with the child Krishna of Braj. Radhe Radhe.

Panipat to Vrindavan: the routes

The routes from Panipat to Vrindavan, with approximate distance and time:

Route

Distance

Time (approx)

Via the Yamuna Expressway (fastest)

About 254 km

About 4 hr 12 min

Via the Eastern Peripheral Expressway and NH 44

About 266 km

About 4 hr 14 min

Via NH 44 (shortest)

About 243 km

About 5 hr 30 min

The Yamuna Expressway route is the fastest at about 4 hr 12 min, though longer at about 254 km, using the expressways to skirt Delhi; the Eastern Peripheral Expressway route is similar; and the NH 44, though the shortest at about 243 km, is slower at about 5 hr 30 min on ordinary roads. So the longer expressway route is the quicker choice. Times are approximate and depend on traffic; please check live maps before you set off.

Vrindavan to Panipat: the return

The return, Vrindavan to Panipat, is much the same. The options:

Route

Distance

Time (approx)

Via the Yamuna Expressway (fastest)

About 252 km

About 4 hr 12 min

Via NH 44 and the Western Peripheral Expressway

About 266 km

About 4 hr 31 min

Via NH 44 (shortest)

About 246 km

About 4 hr 38 min

The Yamuna Expressway route is again the fastest for the return, at about 4 hr 12 min; the NH 44 with the Western Peripheral Expressway is a smooth alternative and the plain NH 44, though shortest, a little slower. As on the way out, the expressway route is the quicker choice. Treat these as guide figures and check live traffic before you leave.

The routes: expressway versus direct

The key to the Panipat to Braj journey is choosing the expressway route over the shorter direct road:

  • The expressway route (longer but faster). The route by the Yamuna Expressway, joined near Delhi by the Eastern or Western Peripheral Expressways, uses fast, smooth expressways to skirt the capital and reach Braj; though about 254 km, it is the fastest at about 4 hr 12 min and the more comfortable drive.

  • The peripheral expressways. The Eastern and Western Peripheral Expressways ring Delhi, letting Panipat travellers bypass the city's traffic and join the Yamuna Expressway towards Mathura; they are what make the longer route faster.

  • The direct road (shorter but slower). The NH 44 is the shortest at about 243 km, but runs on ordinary roads through the towns and Delhi, so it is slower at about 5 hr 30 min; it is the direct line, but the expressway route is quicker and easier.

Where the road reaches the Braj end, our agra to vrindavan distance guide covers the approach to Mathura and Vrindavan.

Best ways to travel: road and rail

For this quick medium haul, Panipat gives you good choices:

  • By car (best). About four hours by the Yamuna Expressway, doable easily in a day, with the freedom to see Vrindavan and Mathura together, only about 14 km apart; an easy day trip or an overnight for the wider Braj. Fares vary, so ask us for a live quote.

  • By train. Panipat is a railway junction on the main lines and trains connect it towards Mathura Junction, the station for both Mathura and Vrindavan; a restful option, though you may need to check connections, from where an auto or e-rickshaw takes you on. Check current trains on IRCTC.

  • By bus. Buses run from Panipat towards Delhi and Mathura; the budget option, though slower and less direct than a car.

For the drive from the Delhi side and fares, see our delhi to mathura vrindavan distance taxi cost guide and for arriving by train, our tundla to vrindavan distance guide covers the region's railheads.

What to see in Braj, best time and tips

When you reach Braj, the great sights await:

  • In Vrindavan and Mathura. See the beloved Banke Bihari, the marble Prem Mandir with its evening light show and the ISKCON temple in Vrindavan; and the Krishna Janmabhoomi, the Dwarkadhish temple and the Yamuna ghats in Mathura, only about 14 km apart.

  • Pair with Kurukshetra. As Panipat lies near Kurukshetra, the land where Krishna spoke the Bhagavad Gita, some travellers pair the Gita land with the childhood land of Krishna at Braj, joining two great chapters of the Lord.

  • Best time and tips. October to March is the most pleasant season; take the expressway route and start early so you reach the temples fresh and in the old towns take an e-rickshaw for the temple lanes, as cars are kept out.

See the banke bihari temple, prem mandir vrindavan and iskcon temple vrindavan in Vrindavan and the krishna janmabhoomi, dwarkadhish temple and braj yamuna ghats and leela sites in Mathura.

We welcome pilgrims from Panipat and across Haryana to Mathura and Vrindavan, with a comfortable vehicle, the temple darshan and the e-rickshaw arranged and a Braj-born guide. A shared day tour starts from around ₹1,499 per person, with darshan free. "We booked the Same Day Mathura Vrindavan Tour Package with Experience My India and had a very smooth family pilgrimage. The journey from Panipat was comfortable, and the team planned the day in a way that allowed us to visit both cities without unnecessary delays. Banke Bihari Temple and Prem Mandir were the highlights for us, while Krishna Janmabhoomi and the Yamuna ghats added a special spiritual feeling. The e-rickshaw arrangement in the temple areas was also very helpful. Gurudutt ji was supportive from the beginning and kept checking that everything was going well. The entire team was polite and well coordinated. We came back the same day with wonderful memories of Braj."

"Our 2 Days Mathura Vrindavan Tour Package with Experience My India was a peaceful and memorable family trip. We specifically chose two days so that we could enjoy darshan properly instead of trying to cover everything in a hurry. Banke Bihari Temple, ISKCON and Prem Mandir were wonderful experiences in Vrindavan. In Mathura, visiting Krishna Janmabhoomi and Dwarkadhish Temple gave the journey a deeper spiritual meaning. We also enjoyed spending some quiet time near the Yamuna ghats. Gurudutt ji was very courteous and helpful throughout the trip, especially when we needed guidance about local travel. The arrangements were comfortable and communication was clear. Experience My India made our Braj yatra feel simple, organised and genuinely enjoyable."

"We had a beautiful experience with Experience My India on the 3 Days Mathura Vrindavan Tour Package. The three-day itinerary gave our family enough time to experience Mathura and Vrindavan at a relaxed pace. We visited Banke Bihari Temple, Prem Mandir and ISKCON, and also spent meaningful time at Krishna Janmabhoomi, Dwarkadhish Temple and the Yamuna ghats. We appreciated that the trip was not limited to simply ticking places off a list. There was enough time to sit peacefully, take darshan and enjoy the atmosphere of Braj. Gurudutt ji was very helpful, respectful and attentive throughout the journey. The vehicle arrangements and local commuting were handled smoothly. We returned home feeling peaceful and grateful for such a memorable pilgrimage."
