Patna to Vrindavan Distance: Routes, Time and Best Ways to Travel

By Gurudutt, Experience My India·16 September 2026

Patna to Vrindavan Distance

Quick Answer

The distance from Patna to Vrindavan is about 922 km by the fastest route, and the drive takes roughly 13 and a half hours, largely on the new Purvanchal Expressway joined to the Agra-Lucknow Expressway, the fast modern corridor from Bihar through Lucknow and Agra to Braj. As this is a long haul, many travellers go by train, for Patna is a major railway junction with fine trains to Mathura Junction, or by air; the road is best as a long day or a two-day drive. Thanks to the expressways, it is a quicker drive than the distance suggests. The return, Vrindavan to Patna, is much the same, about 924 km. All times are approximate.

Patna to Vrindavan distance: an overview

From Patna, the capital of Bihar on the banks of the Ganges, the land of Krishna lies about 922 km to the west, roughly 13 and a half hours by road, largely on the new Purvanchal Expressway joined to the Agra-Lucknow Expressway, the fast modern corridor running through Lucknow and Agra towards Braj. Thanks to these new expressways, it is a quicker drive than the distance suggests. Being a long haul, many travellers go by train, for Patna is a major railway junction with fine trains to Mathura Junction or by air; the road is best as a long day or a two-day drive. It is a long journey from the ancient Ganges city to the heart of Krishna devotion; and if you would rather leave the long journey to a Braj local, a mathura vrindavan tour with Experience My India can plan it and meet you at Mathura Junction or Delhi.

From the ground (Gurudutt): My Patna guests are lucky, for the new expressways have made the drive to Braj much faster; the Purvanchal and Agra-Lucknow Expressways carry you smoothly through Lucknow and Agra in about 13 and a half hours. Still, it is a long way, so I usually suggest one of Patna's fine trains to Mathura Junction or a flight to Delhi. However you come, from the Ganges to the Yamuna, Braj awaits with open arms. Radhe Radhe.

Patna to Vrindavan: the routes

For those who drive, there are three main routes, largely on the new expressways. The options, with approximate distance and time:

Route

Distance

Time (approx)

Via the Purvanchal and Agra-Lucknow Expressways (fastest)

About 922 km

About 13 hr 36 min

Via the Purvanchal Expressway

About 941 km

About 15 hr 10 min

Via the Agra-Lucknow Expressway

About 956 km

About 14 hr 57 min

The route joining the Purvanchal and Agra-Lucknow Expressways is the fastest and shortest at about 922 km and just over 13 and a half hours, using the full modern expressway corridor through Lucknow and Agra; the other routes, using only one of the expressways, are longer and slower. Times are approximate and depend on traffic; please check live maps before you set off and plan a long day or an overnight.

Vrindavan to Patna: the return

The return, Vrindavan to Patna, is much the same. The options:

Route

Distance

Time (approx)

Via the Agra-Lucknow and Purvanchal Expressways (fastest)

About 924 km

About 14 hr 5 min

Via the Agra-Lucknow Expressway

About 957 km

About 14 hr 51 min

Via the Purvanchal Expressway

About 943 km

About 15 hr 39 min

The route joining the Agra-Lucknow and Purvanchal Expressways is again the fastest for the return, at about 924 km and about 14 hours, using the full modern corridor. As with the outward drive, treat these as guide figures and check live traffic and plan a long day or an overnight.

The route via the Purvanchal and Agra-Lucknow Expressways

What makes the Patna to Braj journey faster than the distance suggests is the modern expressway corridor:

  • The Purvanchal Expressway. The Purvanchal Expressway is a fast, new access-controlled expressway across eastern Uttar Pradesh, connecting the Patna and eastern-UP side towards Lucknow; it carries the first part of the journey swiftly.

  • The Agra-Lucknow Expressway. From Lucknow, the Agra-Lucknow Expressway, another fast new expressway, carries the journey on to Agra, near the Braj end; together the two expressways make a smooth, fast modern corridor from Bihar to Braj.

  • Faster than it looks. Because of these expressways, the drive of about 922 km takes only about 13 and a half hours, quicker than many shorter routes on older roads; keep your FASTag ready, as they are toll roads and check the current open sections.

Where the road reaches the Braj end near Agra, our agra to vrindavan distance guide covers the final leg towards Mathura and Vrindavan.

Best ways to travel: train, air and road

For a journey of this length, Patna gives you good choices:

  • By train (a strong choice). Patna is a major railway junction on the main lines, with fine, fast trains, including premier services, to Mathura Junction, the railway station for Vrindavan, about 14 km away; for a journey of this length the train is restful and convenient and a great favourite for Bihari pilgrims. Check current trains on IRCTC.

  • By air (fastest). Patna has an airport with flights towards Delhi; fly to Delhi and drive the last stretch to Braj, about 3 to 3.5 hours, reaching Vrindavan far sooner than by road. Check current flights and we can meet you at Delhi.

  • By car (faster than it looks). About 13 and a half hours on the Purvanchal and Agra-Lucknow Expressways, quicker than the distance suggests; doable in a long day if you start very early, or, more comfortably, with an overnight. Fares vary, so ask us for a live quote.

For arriving by train, our tundla to vrindavan distance guide covers the region's railheads and if you fly to Delhi and drive, our delhi to mathura vrindavan distance taxi cost guide covers that last leg.

Should you drive it

By road, thanks to the expressways, it is more manageable than most hauls of this distance, but still long. At about 13.5 to 15.5 hours each way, a same-day return is impossible and even one way is a very long day; for most, the train or a flight is easier. The sensible plans:

  • Take the train or fly. The Patna trains reach Mathura Junction directly and comfortably; or fly to Delhi and drive the short last leg to Braj. Either is far easier than the long drive.

  • Drive via the expressways. If you drive, use the full Purvanchal and Agra-Lucknow Expressway corridor for the fastest, smoothest journey and break it with an overnight, perhaps near Lucknow or Agra.

  • A wider pilgrimage. Fold Braj into a longer trip that also takes in Agra and the Taj, near the Braj end, for a fuller journey.

What to see in Braj, best time and tips

When you reach Braj, the great sights await:

  • In Mathura and Vrindavan. See the Krishna Janmabhoomi at the birthplace, the Dwarkadhish temple and the Yamuna ghats in Mathura; and the beloved Banke Bihari, the marble Prem Mandir with its evening light show and the serene ISKCON temple in Vrindavan.

  • Best time. October to March is the most pleasant season for the journey and the darshan, with cool, comfortable weather; the great festivals are magnificent but very crowded.

  • Tips. Take the train or use the expressways for the fastest drive, so you reach the temples fresh; keep your FASTag active for the tolls; and in the old towns, park at the edge and take an e-rickshaw for the temple lanes.

See the krishna janmabhoomi, dwarkadhish temple and braj yamuna ghats and leela sites in Mathura and the banke bihari temple, prem mandir vrindavan and iskcon temple vrindavan in Vrindavan.

We welcome pilgrims from Patna and across Bihar to Braj with a comfortable vehicle, the temple darshan and the e-rickshaw arranged and a Braj-born guide and we can meet you at Mathura Junction, where Patna's trains arrive or at Delhi if you fly. A shared day tour starts from around ₹1,499 per person, with darshan free. Our mathura vrindavan tour covers the twin cities, our vrindavan tour package Vrindavan in a day, the braj 84 kos yatra the whole of Braj and our agra mathura vrindavan tour package the Taj with Braj; our mathura vrindavan tour itinerary, how to commute in vrindavan and mathura vrindavan temple timings guides help you plan. "We booked the Same Day Mathura Vrindavan Tour Package with Experience My India for a family pilgrimage, and the entire day was managed very smoothly. Since we wanted to visit both Mathura and Vrindavan without staying overnight, the itinerary worked perfectly for us. We had peaceful darshan at Krishna Janmabhoomi and Banke Bihari Temple, and Prem Mandir was especially beautiful during our visit. The local e-rickshaw arrangement was also very useful for getting around the busy temple lanes. Gurudutt ji was helpful throughout the journey and kept checking that everyone was comfortable. The team was punctual and well coordinated. We returned home the same day with tired feet but very happy hearts."

"Our 2 Days Mathura Vrindavan Tour Package with Experience My India was a lovely experience for our family. We wanted enough time for darshan instead of trying to cover everything in a single day, and the two-day plan gave us a comfortable pace. Banke Bihari Temple and Prem Mandir were the highlights in Vrindavan, while Krishna Janmabhoomi, Dwarkadhish Temple and the Yamuna ghats made our Mathura visit very meaningful. The arrangements for local commuting were convenient, especially around the older temple areas. Gurudutt ji was very respectful, patient and always ready to guide us. Everything was communicated clearly, and we never felt confused during the trip. Experience My India made our Braj yatra comfortable and memorable."

"We recently travelled on the 3 Days Mathura Vrindavan Tour Package with Experience My India, and it was a deeply satisfying pilgrimage. The extra day allowed us to explore Mathura and Vrindavan without rushing, which made the experience much more peaceful. We visited Krishna Janmabhoomi, Dwarkadhish Temple and the Yamuna ghats in Mathura, followed by Banke Bihari Temple, ISKCON and Prem Mandir in Vrindavan. We also appreciated having time to experience more of Braj beyond the busiest temple areas. Gurudutt ji personally guided us whenever we needed help and made the arrangements feel effortless. The vehicle, local travel and overall coordination were handled very well. Our family returned with wonderful memories and sincere gratitude to Experience My India."
