Tundla to Vrindavan Distance: Routes, Time and How to Reach

By Gurudutt, Experience My India·15 August 2026

Tundla to Vrindavan Distance

Quick Answer

The distance from Tundla to Vrindavan is about 82.7 km by the fastest route, via the Manpur-Sauj Road and the Yamuna Expressway, taking roughly 1 hour 26 minutes by road; the return, Vrindavan to Tundla, is about 81.5 km in the same time. Tundla is a major railway junction about 25 km from Agra where most long-distance trains halt, so many pilgrims alight here for Braj and continue to Vrindavan by taxi via the smooth Yamuna Expressway. There is no convenient direct train to Vrindavan; the nearest railhead is Mathura Junction, about 14 km away.

Tundla to Vrindavan: an overview

For countless pilgrims, especially those travelling from eastern India, the journey to the land of Krishna begins not at Mathura but at Tundla, the great railway junction near Agra where their train first sets them down in Braj. From there, the dham of Vrindavan is only about 82 km away, a smooth hour-and-a-half drive up the Yamuna Expressway. This guide gives the full distance and routes from Tundla to Vrindavan and back, with the train, taxi and bus options and how to plan. Our how to reach vrindavan guide covers all the ways to reach the dham.

From the ground (Gurudutt): I meet many pilgrims who are surprised to find themselves getting off at Tundla rather than Mathura; it happens because so many long-distance trains, especially from Kolkata, Patna and the east, stop at Tundla but not always at Mathura. Do not worry if that is you; Tundla to Vrindavan is an easy drive of about an hour and a half on the Yamuna Expressway, one of the best roads in the country. The simplest thing is to have a taxi waiting when your train arrives, so you are not haggling on the platform. And since Agra is just next door, many of my guests see the Taj first and then come up to Vrindavan. Book the cab ahead, keep your train details handy and enjoy the smooth road. About Tundla Junction

Tundla or Tundla Junction, with the station code TDL, is a major railway junction in the Firozabad district of Uttar Pradesh, about 25 km from Agra, on the historic Delhi-Howrah main line. Built by the British and opened in 1866, it is a busy junction where nearly all long-distance trains on the route halt, many of them a technical stop to change crew and it is an important gateway for travellers from the east, from Kolkata, Patna and beyond.

So for many pilgrims to Braj, Tundla is where their train arrives, whether or not their train stops at Mathura, which is why the Tundla to Vrindavan journey is such a common one. So it is a handy, well-connected railhead. So if your train sets you down at Tundla, Vrindavan is only a short drive away up the expressway.

How to travel from Tundla to Vrindavan

By taxi or car: the most practical option; a pre-booked taxi from Tundla Junction takes the Yamuna Expressway to Vrindavan in about 1 hour 26 minutes, comfortable and direct, especially useful if you arrive by train with luggage.

By train: there is no convenient direct train from Tundla to Vrindavan; the nearest railhead to Vrindavan is Mathura Junction, about 14 km away, so most travellers continue from Tundla by road rather than changing trains.

By bus: buses and shared cabs run in the area, via Agra or the highway, though for the temples of Vrindavan a taxi is far more convenient and time is better spent in darshan than at bus stands.

Once in Vrindavan, our how to commute in vrindavan guide covers getting around the narrow lanes by e-rickshaw and on foot and the mathura vrindavan temple timings guide covers the temple hours. So a taxi via the Yamuna Expressway is the best way. So there is no easy direct train. So travel from Tundla to Vrindavan by road for comfort and speed.

What to see in Vrindavan and Mathura

Having reached Vrindavan from Tundla, the great temples await: the beloved banke bihari temple, the magnificent prem mandir vrindavan and the iskcon temple vrindavan, along with Nidhivan, the Radha Raman and Radha Damodar temples and Keshi Ghat. Nearby Mathura, the birthplace of Krishna and the wider Braj, Govardhan, Barsana and Gokul, are all within easy reach. Our places to visit near mathura guide covers the region and the best time to visit vrindavan mathura guide the seasons.

How to plan your trip

If you are arriving at Tundla by train, the smoothest plan is to have a taxi booked to meet you and drive straight to Vrindavan via the Yamuna Expressway, about an hour and a half; since Agra with the Taj Mahal is only about 25 km from Tundla, many combine it, seeing Agra first or making an Agra, Mathura and Vrindavan triangle. Our mathura vrindavan tour itinerary helps you shape the days and our agra mathura tour package covers the Agra combination.

We arrange taxis and tours from Tundla to Vrindavan and Mathura, with pick-up from the junction, the Yamuna Expressway route and a knowledgeable local guide for the temples. A shared day tour of Mathura and Vrindavan starts from around ₹1,499 per person, with darshan free at the temples; our one-day vrindavan tour package covers Vrindavan and our two-day mathura vrindavan tour the twin cities, while a private car from Tundla can be arranged on request. Message me on WhatsApp at +91-7302265809 with your train details to plan your journey.

"We booked the Same Day Mathura Vrindavan Tour Package after our train dropped us at Tundla Junction. Initially, we were worried because our train did not stop at Mathura, but the team had already arranged a taxi for us. The driver picked us up directly from Tundla and took the Yamuna Expressway route to Vrindavan. The drive took around an hour and a half, and we reached without any trouble. We covered Banke Bihari Temple, ISKCON and Prem Mandir before returning. Having the cab waiting at the station saved us from dealing with transport after a long train journey."

"Our 2 Days Mathura Vrindavan Tour Package worked perfectly because we arrived at Tundla Junction by train. The team already had our train details, so the taxi was ready when we reached the station. We took the fastest route via Manpur-Sauj Road and the Yamuna Expressway, reaching Vrindavan in roughly 1 hour 26 minutes. The next two days were comfortably planned around Mathura and Vrindavan temples. I especially liked that we did not have to change trains or search for a bus because there is no convenient direct train from Tundla to Vrindavan. The whole transfer was simple and comfortable."

"We chose the 3 Days Mathura Vrindavan Tour Package after arriving at Tundla, and the location actually worked in our favour because Agra is only about 25 km away. We decided to visit the Taj Mahal first and then continue towards Mathura and Vrindavan. The team arranged our private car from Tundla and planned the route so we could cover the three destinations without unnecessary backtracking. Over the next two days, we visited Krishna Janmabhoomi, Banke Bihari Temple, Prem Mandir and several other temples. The advice to book the Tundla pickup in advance was particularly useful after travelling by train with luggage."
