Bharatpur to Mathura and Vrindavan Distance: Routes and Travel

By Gurudutt, Experience My India·19 September 2026

Bharatpur to Mathura and Vrindavan Distance

Quick Answer

The distance from Bharatpur to Mathura is only about 40 km, and to Vrindavan about 51 km, roughly an hour to an hour and a half by road, most directly via the Mathura-Bharatpur Road, the dedicated road between them. As Bharatpur, in eastern Rajasthan, lies right on the edge of the Braj region, it is the closest of the Rajasthan cities to Krishna's land, an easy short trip, even a half-day. The returns, Mathura to Bharatpur and Vrindavan to Bharatpur, are much the same, about 40 to 52 km. This guide gives the routes both ways to both cities. All times are approximate and depend on traffic.

Bharatpur to Braj distance: an overview

From Bharatpur, the city of eastern Rajasthan on the very edge of the Braj region, the land of Krishna lies close at hand: Mathura, the birthplace, only about 40 km away and Vrindavan, the town of his childhood, about 51 km, each roughly an hour to an hour and a half by road. The direct route is the Mathura-Bharatpur Road, the dedicated road that links the two. As Bharatpur is the nearest of the Rajasthan cities to Braj, sitting on its western, Rajasthan edge, it is the easiest of short trips, doable even in a half-day; and as Bharatpur is a railway junction close to Mathura, the train is quick and easy too. This guide gives the routes both ways to both cities; and if you would like the drive, the darshan and the e-rickshaw arranged, a mathura vrindavan tour with Experience My India can plan it.

From the ground (Gurudutt): For my guests from Bharatpur, Braj is right next door, barely an hour by the Mathura-Bharatpur road; indeed, your own Deeg and Kamyavan are part of Braj already. Come in the morning, do the Mathura and Vrindavan temples and you are home by evening or even by afternoon. It is the shortest and easiest of trips to Krishna's land. Let me shape the day for you. Radhe Radhe.

Bharatpur on the edge of Braj

Bharatpur is not merely near Braj but sits on its very edge, which gives the journey a special closeness:

  • The Rajasthan edge of Braj. Bharatpur and its Deeg district lie on the western, Rajasthan edge of the greater Braj region, so the land of Krishna reaches almost to Bharatpur itself; the trip barely leaves Braj.

  • Kamyavan and Deeg. Nearby lie Deeg, with its grand palace and Kamyavan or Kaman, one of the twelve forests of Braj, home of the Braj Char Dham, on the Braj Chaurasi Kos Yatra; so Bharatpur is a gateway to the western Braj as well as to Mathura and Vrindavan.

  • Bharatpur's own draw. Bharatpur is also famous for its Keoladeo National Park, the great bird sanctuary and a World Heritage Site and its Lohagarh fort; so a visit can pair Krishna's Braj with Bharatpur's own sights.

The sacred hill of govardhan hill lies in the western Braj towards Bharatpur and the braj 84 kos yatra passes through the Kamyavan and Deeg area.

An easy short trip and best ways to travel

Being so near, Bharatpur makes Braj the easiest of trips:

  • By car (best). About an hour by the Mathura-Bharatpur Road, with the freedom to see Vrindavan and Mathura together, only about 14 km apart; an easy day trip or even a half-day, returning to Bharatpur by afternoon or evening. Fares vary, so ask us for a live quote.

  • By train. Bharatpur is a railway junction on the main lines, close to Mathura, so trains connect it to Mathura Junction, the station for both cities, in a short ride; from there an auto or e-rickshaw takes you on. Check current times on IRCTC.

  • By bus and local transport. Buses and shared transport run frequently between Bharatpur and Mathura, being so close; a cheap and easy option, though a car is the most flexible for the temples.

For the car option and fares, see our delhi to mathura vrindavan distance taxi cost guide, our agra to vrindavan distance guide for the Braj approach and our how to commute in vrindavan guide for getting around Braj.

What to see in Braj, best time and tips

When you reach Braj, the great sights await:

  • In Mathura and Vrindavan. See the Krishna Janmabhoomi at the birthplace, the Dwarkadhish temple and the Yamuna ghats in Mathura; and the beloved Banke Bihari, the marble Prem Mandir with its evening light show and the serene ISKCON temple in Vrindavan.

  • Best time. October to March is the most pleasant season for the drive and the darshan, with cool, comfortable weather; start early so you reach the temples before the midday closing and being so near, you have the day at your ease.

  • Tips. In the old towns, cars are kept out of the lanes, so park at the edge and take an e-rickshaw for the temples; see Vrindavan and Mathura together for a full day and add Govardhan or the western Braj on the Bharatpur side if you wish.

See the krishna janmabhoomi, dwarkadhish temple and braj yamuna ghats and leela sites in Mathura and the banke bihari temple, prem mandir vrindavan and iskcon temple vrindavan in Vrindavan.

We welcome visitors from Bharatpur to Mathura and Vrindavan, being right next door, with a comfortable vehicle, the temple darshan and the e-rickshaw arranged and a Braj-born guide and we can meet you at Mathura Junction if you come by train. A shared day tour starts from around ₹1,499 per person, with darshan free. Bharatpur · 14 July 2026

"I booked the Same Day Mathura Vrindavan Tour Package with Experience My India for a family visit, and it turned out to be a very comfortable spiritual day. Since Bharatpur is so close to Mathura and Vrindavan, the journey was easy and well planned. Gurudutt ji guided us personally and made sure we did not waste time between the important places. We visited Krishna Janmabhoomi, Dwarkadhish Temple, Banke Bihari Temple and Prem Mandir, and also experienced the peaceful atmosphere around the Yamuna ghats. The e-rickshaw arrangement was especially useful in the narrow temple areas. I liked the way the itinerary covered both cities without making the day feel unnecessarily rushed. Experience My India handled everything sincerely, and Gurudutt ji's local guidance made the pilgrimage memorable."

"Our 2 Days Mathura Vrindavan Tour Package with Experience My India was a lovely family pilgrimage. We wanted enough time for darshan instead of trying to finish both Mathura and Vrindavan in a few hurried hours. Gurudutt ji understood our requirement and helped us plan the sightseeing comfortably. Krishna Janmabhoomi and Dwarkadhish Temple were important stops in Mathura, while Banke Bihari, Prem Mandir and ISKCON were highlights in Vrindavan. We also enjoyed the Yamuna ghats and the evening aarti. The local e-rickshaw arrangement made moving through the older temple lanes much easier. Everything was coordinated properly, and we always knew what was planned next. Experience My India gave us a peaceful and well-organised experience, with enough time to actually enjoy the spiritual atmosphere of Braj."

"I travelled with my family on the 3 Days Mathura Vrindavan Tour Package arranged by Experience My India, and the three-day schedule gave us a relaxed way to experience Braj. Gurudutt ji was very helpful throughout the trip and shared practical local guidance that made sightseeing easier. We visited Krishna Janmabhoomi, Dwarkadhish Temple, the Yamuna ghats, Banke Bihari Temple, Prem Mandir and ISKCON. We also had time to enjoy the atmosphere of Vrindavan instead of constantly watching the clock. The e-rickshaw arrangement was convenient for reaching the temple areas where larger vehicles cannot easily go. I appreciated the balance between darshan, sightseeing and rest. Experience My India managed the journey professionally, while Gurudutt ji added a personal touch that made our family pilgrimage feel genuinely special."
