Vrindavan 3 days itinerary: an overview
Three days is the sweet spot for Braj: enough to see Vrindavan and Mathura without rushing and to add the beloved Govardhan and Barsana beyond. This itinerary gives you a day-by-day plan, built the way a local would, around the morning and evening darshan windows and the afternoon closing of the temples. If you would rather have it all arranged and driven for you, we run it as a mathura vrindavan tour. For a broader look at durations, see our vrindavan mathura itinerary guide and to see how the places sit, our vrindavan city map.
From the ground (Gurudutt): The mistake I see with three-day trips is people trying to do a bit of everything every day and ending up tired and backtracking. Do it by area: one full day for Vrindavan, one for Mathura and Gokul, one for Govardhan and Barsana. Start each day early, because the best darshan and the coolest weather are in the morning and the temples shut by around noon; use the hot afternoon for lunch and rest and come alive again for the evening aartis and the Prem Mandir lights. Keep Day 3 flexible; if you want to walk the Govardhan parikrama, that alone can fill a morning. And stay in Vrindavan the whole time; it is central and you will not want to keep changing hotels.
Day 1: Vrindavan
Morning: start early in the old town. Take darshan at the banke bihari temple, the heart of Vrindavan, then the ancient radha raman temple and the sacred grove of nidhivan vrindavan, with Seva Kunj and the old lanes; the temples here open by about 7:45 AM in summer and 8:45 AM in winter and close around midday.
Afternoon: rest and have lunch while the temples are closed; the old-town heat is best avoided.
Evening: take the Gaura aarti at the iskcon temple vrindavan at 6:30 PM, see the magnificent prem mandir vrindavan and its fountain and light show around 7:00 to 8:00 PM, and, if time allows, the Yamuna aarti at Keshi Ghat at sunset. So Day 1 is the old-town temples by morning and the great temples and lights by evening.
Day 2: Mathura and Gokul
Morning: drive to Mathura, about 15 km, for morning darshan at the krishna janmabhoomi temple, the birthplace of Krishna and the dwarkadhish temple mathura, the grand temple of the old city; carry only an ID at the high-security Janmabhoomi.
Afternoon: add the Kans Qila and the Government Museum or cross to gokul mandir and Mahavan, about 15 km on, where the infant Krishna was raised, with a break for lunch.
Evening: return to Mathura for the beautiful Yamuna aarti at vishram ghat mathura, the highlight of the Mathura evening, with its floating lamps. So Day 2 is Mathura and Gokul, closing with the Vishram Ghat aarti.
Day 3: Govardhan, Barsana and Nandgaon
Morning: start early for govardhan hill, about 23 km, for the Giriraj darshan at Daan Ghati and the Mukharvind, with Kusum Sarovar and Mansi Ganga; the devout walk part or all of the 21 km parikrama.
Afternoon: drive to radha rani temple barsana, the hilltop temple of Radha Rani in barsana radha rani town, her own village, with Prem Sarovar nearby; the climb is rewarding, with sweeping views.
Evening: take in Nandgaon, the village of Krishna's foster father Nanda, on the way back and return to Vrindavan by evening. So Day 3 completes the Braj pilgrimage with Govardhan, Barsana and Nandgaon. We present these sacred places with the reverence of the tradition, held with faith and recounted with reverence.

Tips for the 3-day itinerary
Start early each day: the best darshan and coolest weather are in the morning and temples close by about noon to 1 PM.
Plan by area, not by map: one day per area (Vrindavan, Mathura and Gokul, Govardhan and Barsana) avoids backtracking.
Stay in Vrindavan: it is central to all three days; no need to change hotels.
Use a car and rickshaws: a car for the town-to-town legs, e-rickshaws and walking in the old lanes.
Carry light at the Janmabhoomi and Banke Bihari: phones and bags are often not allowed; take only an ID.
Come in the cool season: October to March is best, especially for the Govardhan and Barsana walking on Day 3.
