Mathura to Jewar Airport: an overview
For years, flying to Braj meant landing at Delhi and a long drive down; the new airport at Jewar changes that. The Noida International Airport sits on the Yamuna Expressway, only about 92 to 95 km from Mathura, a smooth hour-and-a-half drive, set to become the nearest major airport to the land of Krishna. This guide gives the full distance and routes both ways, about the airport, and how to reach Mathura and Vrindavan from it. If you would like your Braj darshan arranged, we run it as a mathura vrindavan tour with airport pick-up and a local guide.
This guide covers the Mathura to Jewar Airport distance and the road routes; the return journey; about the Noida International Airport; how to travel between the airport and Braj; what it means for reaching Mathura and Vrindavan; and how to plan. Our how to plan vrindavan mathura trip guide helps with the wider trip.
From the ground (Gurudutt): This airport is the most exciting change for Braj travel in my lifetime as a guide. Until now, almost all my flying guests came through Delhi, two and a half to three hours away by road; Jewar is barely ninety minutes from Mathura down the Yamuna Expressway, the same fast road most of us already use. My advice: since the airport is new and still growing its flights, always check the current schedule before you book, and have a taxi arranged to meet you, because the area around a new airport takes time to fill with easy local transport. Once you are on the Expressway, it is a straight, smooth run to the temples. I expect this to bring many more pilgrims to the Lord's land, which is a blessing.

The distance from Mathura to Jewar Airport by road, with the main route options and typical driving times, is given below.
Route | Distance | Time |
Via Yamuna Expressway (fastest) | About 95.2 km | About 1 hr 30 min |
Via Bhuteshwar Rd / Mathura-Vrindavan Marg / Shankar Mandal Rd and Yamuna Expy | About 94.3 km | About 1 hr 31 min |
Via Mathura-Aligarh Rd / Mathura-Hathras Rd and Yamuna Expy | About 92.1 km | About 1 hr 30 min |
So the fastest route is the Yamuna Expressway, about 95.2 km in roughly 1 hour 30 minutes, currently the quickest given the traffic; the other routes are much the same in time. So take the Yamuna Expressway. So confirm your live route on the day, as traffic and conditions change.

About Jewar (Noida International) Airport
Jewar Airport is officially the Noida International Airport, built at Jewar in the Gautam Buddh Nagar district of Uttar Pradesh, on the Yamuna Expressway corridor between Delhi-NCR and Agra; its airport code is DXN. It is the large new greenfield airport for the National Capital Region, designed to grow into one of the biggest in the country, and it sits directly on the Expressway that leads to Mathura and Agra.
Because it lies on the Yamuna Expressway toward Braj, the airport is set to become the nearest major airport to Mathura and Vrindavan, closer than Delhi. As the airport is new and still building up its operations and flight schedule, check the latest flight and transport information when you plan. So Jewar is the Noida International Airport on the Expressway toward Braj. So it will be the closest big airport to the land of Krishna.
How to travel between the airport and Braj
By taxi or car: the most practical way; a pre-booked taxi takes the Yamuna Expressway from the airport to Mathura, about 92 to 95 km in roughly 1 hour 24 to 30 minutes, and on to Vrindavan, about 15 km farther.
By train (via Mathura Junction): Mathura Junction is the main railhead for Braj, reached by road from the airport; from there, local transport serves Vrindavan and the wider region.
By bus and app cabs: buses and app-based cabs serve the Yamuna Expressway corridor, though for temple-hopping a private car is far more convenient.
Once in Braj, our mathura vrindavan city map shows the layout, and the mathura vrindavan temple timings guide the darshan hours. So a taxi down the Expressway is the easiest way. So Vrindavan is a short hop past Mathura. So travel between Jewar Airport and Braj by road for comfort and speed.
What this means for reaching Mathura and Vrindavan
The opening of the Noida International Airport is a major change for Braj. Until now, most air travellers reached Mathura and Vrindavan through Delhi, about 150 km and two and a half to three hours away, as our delhi to mathura vrindavan distance and delhi to vrindavan distance guides describe. Jewar, at about 92 to 95 km and an hour and a half, is far closer, so pilgrims and visitors will be able to fly in and reach the temples much more quickly and easily.
So Jewar makes Braj far more accessible by air than ever before. So it is likely to bring many more visitors to the land of Krishna. So watch the airport's growing flight schedule, and consider flying into Jewar for your next visit to Mathura and Vrindavan.
How to plan your trip
If you fly into Jewar, the smoothest plan is to have a taxi booked to meet you and drive straight down the Yamuna Expressway to Mathura or Vrindavan, about an hour and a half. Allow a full day for the twin cities and more for the wider Braj; the cool months of October to March are the most pleasant. Our vrindavan mathura itinerary helps you shape the days, taking in the krishna janmabhoomi temple, the banke bihari temple and the prem mandir vrindavan.
We arrange taxis and tours from Jewar Airport to Mathura and Vrindavan, with airport pick-up, the Yamuna Expressway route, and a knowledgeable local guide for the temples.
