By Gurudutt, Experience My India·26 August 2026

Meerut to Vrindavan Distance and Back

Quick Answer

The distance from Meerut to Vrindavan is about 200 to 209 km by road, and the drive takes roughly 3 hours 30 minutes by the faster routes. The quickest way is the 200 km route via the Eastern Peripheral Expressway and NH 44, about 3 hours 27 minutes; the Yamuna Expressway route is 209 km and about 3 hours 33 minutes. Avoid the direct NH 34 route, which is a similar distance but much slower at about 4 hours 28 minutes. Coming back, Vrindavan to Meerut is about 199 to 207 km, the quickest being about 3 hours 27 minutes via the Yamuna Expressway. A car or taxi is the easiest way; by rail you travel to Mathura Junction, from where Vrindavan is about 15 km.

Meerut and Vrindavan: an overview

Meerut, the historic city of western Uttar Pradesh and Vrindavan, the town of Krishna on the Yamuna, are joined by an easy drive of about 200 to 209 km, roughly 3 hours 30 minutes on the faster routes, most of it on smooth expressway. The trick, as ever, is to use the Eastern Peripheral or Yamuna Expressway to skirt the Delhi region rather than the slower plain highway and then it is a comfortable half-day to Braj, well within reach for a day trip or an easy weekend. This guide gives every route in both directions with its distance and time, all the ways to travel, why to avoid the slow NH 34 and what awaits you in Vrindavan; and if you would like it all arranged, a mathura vrindavan tour package with Experience My India can meet you and guide your Braj days.

From the ground (Gurudutt): For my guests from Meerut, the one thing I always say is to take the expressway, not the old NH 34: the distance is almost the same, but the plain highway can add a full hour of towns and traffic. Slip onto the Eastern Peripheral Expressway or the Yamuna Expressway, start early and you will be in Vrindavan in about three and a half hours, in good time for the morning or evening darshan. Meerut to Vrindavan distance: the routes

There are three main road routes from Meerut to Vrindavan; here they are side by side:

Route

Distance

Driving time

Via

Fastest

200 km

About 3 hr 27 min

Eastern Peripheral Expressway and NH 44

Alternative

209 km

About 3 hr 33 min

Yamuna Expressway

Slower

209 km

About 4 hr 28 min

NH 34

In short: the quickest way from Meerut to Vrindavan is the 200 km route via the Eastern Peripheral Expressway and NH 44, about 3 hours 27 minutes; the Yamuna Expressway route is 209 km and about 3 hours 33 minutes, almost as quick. The plain NH 34 route is a similar distance but much slower at about 4 hours 28 minutes, so it is best avoided.

Vrindavan to Meerut distance: the routes

Going back, the routes and times are much the same; the main options are these:

Route

Distance

Driving time

Via

Fastest

207 km

About 3 hr 27 min

Yamuna Expressway

Fastest (alternative)

205 km

About 3 hr 27 min

Yamuna Expressway and Eastern Peripheral Expressway

Slower

199 km

About 4 hr 15 min

NH 34

In short: from Vrindavan the quickest way back to Meerut is about 3 hours 27 minutes, either the 207 km route via the Yamuna Expressway or the 205 km route adding the Eastern Peripheral Expressway. The 199 km NH 34 route is the shortest in distance but much slower at about 4 hours 15 minutes, so once again the expressway is the sensible choice.

Which route should you choose?

  • For the quickest drive: the Eastern Peripheral or Yamuna Expressway. Both expressway routes take about 3 hours 30 minutes, whether the Eastern Peripheral Expressway with NH 44 coming to Vrindavan or the Yamuna Expressway going back; they carry you smoothly around the Delhi region.

  • Do not be fooled by the shorter NH 34. NH 34 is a similar or even slightly shorter distance, but it runs through towns and traffic and takes about an hour longer, over 4 hours; the extra few kilometres on the expressway are well worth the time saved.

  • Let the traffic fine-tune the choice. On the day, live traffic around the Delhi region decides between the Eastern Peripheral and Yamuna Expressway routes; a driver who knows the roads will pick the quicker.

Check live traffic on the day, since the choice between the two expressway routes depends on conditions around the Delhi region.

How to travel between Meerut and Vrindavan

There are several ways to make the journey; the options at a glance:

  • By car or taxi (best). The most comfortable and flexible way, about 3 hours 30 minutes by the expressway routes, door to door; ideal for families, elders and pilgrims with luggage and easily arranged as part of a Braj tour.

  • By train. Trains connect Meerut to Mathura Junction, usually via Delhi or Ghaziabad; from Mathura, Vrindavan is about 15 km by road. The new Namo Bharat Rapid Rail also links Meerut swiftly to the Delhi side, from where you can continue. Check the current timetable and book ahead.

  • By bus. Buses run from Meerut towards Delhi and on to Mathura, from where you take a local ride to Vrindavan; it is the budget option, though slower and with a change.

  • By air. The journey is too short to fly; the nearest airport to Vrindavan is Delhi. The road or a train is the sensible way from Meerut.

If you are coming by rail, our tundla to vrindavan distance guide covers the nearby railheads and the last leg into Vrindavan and our how to commute in vrindavan guide covers getting around once you arrive.

The expressway choices: why to avoid NH 34

The single decision that shapes this journey is expressway versus plain highway; a few points to know:

  • The Eastern Peripheral Expressway. This ring road lets traffic from the Meerut and Kundli side bypass the heart of Delhi and combined with NH 44 it gives the fastest run to Vrindavan, about 3 hours 27 minutes.

  • The Yamuna Expressway. The smooth, fast expressway from the Greater Noida side down to the Mathura and Vrindavan region; it is the natural spine going back and almost as quick coming.

  • Why NH 34 is slower. NH 34 is a similar distance but a plain highway through towns and junctions, so it takes about an hour longer; the small extra distance on the expressways buys you a much smoother and faster drive.

Carry cash or a FASTag for the tolls and check the current route on the day, as the expressway links around Delhi continue to be improved.

Best time, tips and how to plan

  • The drive is about 3.5 hours, so a day trip is possible, though a weekend is more restful.

  • Take the Eastern Peripheral or Yamuna Expressway; avoid the slower NH 34 despite its similar distance.

  • Start early to reach Vrindavan by late morning and plan darshan around the midday closing.

  • Carry cash or a FASTag for tolls; the expressways are tolled.

  • October to March is the pleasantest season; watch for winter morning fog on the highways.

Amit Sharma

Meerut · 24 August 2026

"We booked the Same Day Mathura Vrindavan Tour Package from Meerut because we wanted to visit Braj without staying overnight. The journey was much easier than expected because the driver used the Eastern Peripheral Expressway and NH 44, which the guide identifies as the fastest route at around 200 km and 3 hours 27 minutes. We reached Vrindavan in good time for sightseeing and visited Banke Bihari Temple, ISKCON, Prem Mandir and Keshi Ghat, while also making time for Mathura. Starting early was important, especially because the main temples close for a few hours around midday. For a one-day trip from Meerut, the planning worked very well."

"Our 2 Days Mathura Vrindavan Tour Package was a better choice for our family because we did not want to spend the entire trip rushing between temples. We travelled from Meerut by the expressway and had enough time to explore Banke Bihari, Prem Mandir, ISKCON and Keshi Ghat in Vrindavan, along with the important sights of Mathura. Having an overnight stay meant we could plan around the midday temple closures and enjoy both morning and evening darshan. The guide also recommends an overnight stay from Meerut for a more restful experience, and we completely agree."

"We chose the 3 Days Mathura Vrindavan Tour Package because we wanted to see more than just the famous temples. The extra time allowed us to enjoy Banke Bihari, Prem Mandir, ISKCON and Keshi Ghat, while also spending proper time in Mathura at Shri Krishna Janmabhoomi. We travelled from Meerut by car and used the expressway route, which takes around three and a half hours. We also appreciated the flexibility to add nearby Braj sightseeing rather than trying to squeeze everything into one day. The guide's recommendation to avoid NH 34, which can take more than four hours despite a similar distance, was particularly useful."
