Ahmedabad to Vrindavan Distance: Routes, Time and Best Ways to Travel

By Gurudutt, Experience My India·10 September 2026

Ahmedabad to Vrindavan Distance

Quick Answer

The distance from Ahmedabad to Vrindavan is about 933 km by the fastest route, and the drive takes roughly 15 hours, most directly on NH 27; other routes by the Delhi-Mumbai Expressway are a little longer. As this is a very long haul, most travellers fly, since Ahmedabad has excellent air links to Delhi, from where Braj is a short drive. There is a beautiful thread to the journey, for it runs from Gujarat, the land of Dwarka where Krishna reigned as king, to Braj, the land of his birth and childhood. The return, Vrindavan to Ahmedabad, is much the same, about 898 to 913 km. All times are approximate.

Ahmedabad to Vrindavan distance: an overview

From Ahmedabad, the great city of Gujarat, the land of Krishna lies about 933 km to the north, roughly 15 hours by road on NH 27 or a little more by the newer Delhi-Mumbai Expressway. Being so long a journey, most pilgrims from Gujarat fly, for Ahmedabad has excellent air links to Delhi, from where Braj is only a short drive; the road, over two days, is for those who wish to make the pilgrimage overland. And there is a lovely meaning to the trip, for Gujarat is the land of Dwarka, where Krishna reigned as king, so a Gujarati pilgrim travels from the Lord's kingdom to the land of his birth and childhood. If you would rather leave the long journey and the darshan to a Braj local, a mathura vrindavan tour package with Experience My India can plan it and meet you at Delhi if you fly.

From the ground (Gurudutt): I love my Gujarati guests and I tell them something dear: you come from Dwarka's land, where Kanhaiya was king, to the land where he was born and played as a child, so your pilgrimage completes the whole circle of the Lord. Do not tire yourself on the long road unless you wish to; fly to Delhi and let me bring you to Braj in a few hours. And here in Mathura, be sure to bow at the Dwarkadhish temple, where Krishna is worshipped as your own Dwarka's king. Jai Dwarkadhish, Radhe Radhe. Ahmedabad to Vrindavan: the routes

For those who drive, there are three main routes. The options, with approximate distance and time:

Route

Distance

Time (approx)

Via NH 27 (fastest)

About 933 km

About 15 hr 3 min

Via NE 4, the Delhi-Mumbai Expressway and NH 21

About 946 km

About 15 hr 11 min

Via NE 4, the Delhi-Mumbai Expressway

About 944 km

About 17 hr 36 min

The NH 27 route is the fastest and shortest at about 933 km and around 15 hours; the routes by way of the Delhi-Mumbai Expressway, marked NE 4, are a little longer, though smooth. Times are approximate and depend on traffic and tolls; please check live maps before you set off and remember this is a two-day drive.

Vrindavan to Ahmedabad: the return

The return, Vrindavan to Ahmedabad, often runs by way of Udaipur in Rajasthan. The options:

Route

Distance

Time (approx)

Via the Udaipur-Ahmedabad Highway

About 913 km

About 15 hr 46 min

Via NE 4 and the Udaipur-Ahmedabad Highway

About 911 km

About 15 hr 52 min

Via NH 52 and the Udaipur-Ahmedabad Highway

About 898 km

About 18 hr 20 min

For the return, the routes by the Udaipur-Ahmedabad Highway are around 898 to 913 km and 15 to 16 hours, passing through Rajasthan by way of Udaipur, the lake city, which some travellers add as a beautiful stop. Treat these as guide figures and check live traffic before you leave.

Best ways to travel: air, road and rail

For a journey of this length, Ahmedabad gives you good choices and flying is usually the wisest:

  • By air (best). Ahmedabad has a major airport with excellent, frequent flights to Delhi; fly to Delhi and drive the last stretch to Braj, about 3 to 3.5 hours, reaching Vrindavan the same day you set out, far sooner than by road. Check current flights and we can meet you at Delhi and drive you on.

  • By car (for the overland pilgrim). About 15 hours on NH 27 or a little more by the Delhi-Mumbai Expressway, best as a two-day drive with an overnight; some add Udaipur in Rajasthan on the way. Fares vary, so ask us for a live quote.

  • By train (restful for the distance). Ahmedabad is a major railway hub and trains connect it to Mathura Junction, the railway station for Vrindavan, about 14 km away; for a long journey the train is restful. Check current times and fares on IRCTC.

If you fly to Delhi and drive, our delhi to mathura vrindavan distance taxi cost guide covers that last leg, our agra to vrindavan distance guide the Braj approach and our tundla to vrindavan distance guide the arrival by train at the nearby railheads.

Should you drive it

By road, honestly, only if you wish to make the overland pilgrimage. At about 15 to 18 hours each way, a same-day return is impossible and even one way is a two-day journey; for most, flying is far better. The sensible plans:

  • Fly and drive. For the least time and trouble, fly Ahmedabad to Delhi and drive the short last leg to Braj, seeing Vrindavan the same day you set out.

  • A two-day drive. If you drive, break the journey with an overnight, perhaps at Udaipur in Rajasthan and give the next day to the last stretch and darshan.

  • A wider pilgrimage. Fold Braj into a longer trip that also takes in Agra and the Taj, near the Braj end or Udaipur on the way, for a fuller journey.

From Dwarka's land to Braj: the Krishna thread

For a pilgrim from Gujarat, this journey carries a beautiful meaning, joining two great chapters of Krishna's life:

  • Gujarat, the land of Dwarka. Gujarat is the land of Dwarka, the golden city by the western sea where Krishna reigned as king in his later life, one of the holiest cities of India and a great pilgrimage of the Lord as Dwarkadhish.

  • Braj, the land of his birth. Braj, of Mathura and Vrindavan, is the land of Krishna's birth and childhood; so to travel from Gujarat to Braj is to journey from the Lord's kingdom to his cradle, from the king to the child.

  • The Dwarkadhish of Mathura. And there is a lovely closeness at the Braj end, for Mathura's own great temple honours Krishna as Dwarkadhish, the king of Dwarka; so a Gujarati pilgrim finds their own Lord of Dwarka worshipped here in his birthplace, completing the circle.

Be sure to visit the dwarkadhish temple in Mathura, where Krishna is worshipped as the king of Dwarka and the krishna janmabhoomi at his birthplace.

Best time to visit and tips

  • October to March is the most pleasant season for the journey and for temple darshan, with cool, comfortable weather.

  • Fly or plan a two-day drive, so you reach the temples fresh and before the midday closing, unhurried by the long journey.

  • Keep your FASTag active for the expressway and highway tolls and check the current open stretches of the Delhi-Mumbai Expressway.

  • If you drive, consider adding Udaipur in Rajasthan as an overnight and a beautiful stop on the way.

  • In Vrindavan, cars are kept out of the old-town lanes, so park at the edge and take an e-rickshaw for the temples.

We welcome pilgrims from Ahmedabad and across Gujarat to Braj with a comfortable vehicle, the temple darshan arranged and the e-rickshaw handled in the lanes, guided by a Braj-born local and we can meet you at Delhi if you fly. A shared day tour starts from around ₹1,499 per person, with darshan free. When you reach Vrindavan, the banke bihari temple, the marble prem mandir vrindavan and the serene iskcon temple vrindavan await. Our mathura vrindavan tour covers the twin cities, our vrindavan tour package Vrindavan in a day and the braj 84 kos yatra the whole of Braj; our mathura vrindavan tour itinerary and how to commute in vrindavan and mathura vrindavan temple timings guides help you plan. "We booked the Same Day Govardhan Barsana Tour Package for our family and had a beautiful pilgrimage experience. The route was planned well, and we were able to visit the important places around Govardhan and Barsana without wasting time. We especially enjoyed Daan Ghati, Radha Kund, Kusum Sarovar and the peaceful atmosphere of Barsana. The visit to Radha Rani Temple was the highlight of our day. Experience My India managed everything smoothly, and Gurudutt ji was very helpful and respectful throughout the journey."

"Our 2 Days Mathura Vrindavan Govardhan Barsana Tour Package was a wonderful family pilgrimage. We liked the way the itinerary combined the major temples of Mathura and Vrindavan with the sacred places of western Braj. We visited Krishna Janmabhoomi, Banke Bihari and Prem Mandir, along with Govardhan and Barsana. Experience My India coordinated the transportation very well, while Gurudutt ji was courteous, patient and always ready to help. The trip was busy but comfortable, and we never felt that we were simply rushing from one place to another."

"We had an excellent experience with the 3 Days Mathura Vrindavan Tour Package. Three days gave us enough time to enjoy the pilgrimage at a comfortable pace. We spent the first day visiting the major temples of Vrindavan, explored Mathura and Gokul on the second day, and then visited Govardhan, Barsana and Nandgaon. Experience My India handled the travel arrangements smoothly, and Gurudutt ji was knowledgeable, polite and very supportive throughout. The third day was especially memorable because we could experience the wider Braj region instead of limiting the trip to the two main cities."
