Mathura to Mehandipur Balaji distance: an overview

From Mathura, the birthplace of Krishna, the famous Mehandipur Balaji temple in Rajasthan lies about 120 km to the west, roughly two and a half to three hours by road. It is a much-loved journey for pilgrims who wish to join the darshan of Krishna in Braj with that of Hanuman, worshipped at Mehandipur as Balaji, one of the most revered Hanuman temples in the country. The drive runs by the Mathura-Bharatpur Road and NH 21 through Rajasthan, an easy day trip or an overnight; and if you would like a comfortable cab or a guided trip arranged from Mathura, a mathura vrindavan tour package with Experience My India can help.

From the ground (Gurudutt): Many pilgrims who come to Braj for Krishna also wish to take Hanuman's darshan at Mehandipur Balaji and it is an easy run of about three hours from Mathura. I arrange comfortable cabs for this trip, so that guests can bow before Bihari Ji here and before Balaji there in the same journey. Go with faith and a calm heart, follow the temple's customs and travel safely. Jai Shri Ram, Radhe Radhe. See our Mathura Vrindavan tour Package  or message WhatsApp +91 7302265809.

About Mehandipur Balaji temple

Mehandipur Balaji is among the most famous Hanuman temples in India, in the rugged Aravalli hills of the Dausa district of Rajasthan:

  • A revered temple of Hanuman. The temple is dedicated to Hanuman, worshipped here in his childhood form as Balaji, whose idol is said to have manifested in the hills; it is built in the traditional Rajasthani style and draws great numbers of devotees all year round.

  • The presiding deities. In the sanctum, Balaji is honoured alongside Pret Raj Sarkar and Kotwal Bhairav, revered as deities of protection and justice and there is a temple to Siyaram, Sita and Rama, nearby.

  • A place of deep faith. Mehandipur Balaji is especially revered by devotees who seek relief from troubles and negative influences and who come with strong faith and devotion; it is a place of powerful belief rather than of sightseeing and is best approached with reverence.

The temple keeps its own customs and offerings, which devotees follow carefully, so it is best to learn and respect them on arrival or to go with someone who knows them; approach the darshan with faith and a calm heart.

Best ways to travel

From Mathura, the choices for reaching Mehandipur Balaji are:

  • By car or taxi (best). About three hours by the Mathura-Bharatpur Road and NH 21, with the freedom to break the journey and travel at your own pace; an easy day trip or a relaxed overnight. Fares vary, so ask us for a live quote and we can arrange a comfortable cab from Mathura.

  • By train and road. Trains connect the Mathura region towards the stations nearest Mehandipur Balaji, such as Bandikui, from where you continue by road; for a long journey the train is restful, but a car is more direct. Check current times and stations on IRCTC.

  • By bus. Buses run along the Agra-Jaipur highway near the temple and from the Mathura and Bharatpur side; the budget option, though slower and less direct than a car.

For the cab option and fares, see our delhi to mathura vrindavan distance taxi cost guide and our how to commute in vrindavan guide for getting around Braj at the Mathura end.

Combining with Mathura and Krishna's Braj

Many pilgrims pair Mehandipur Balaji with the darshan of Krishna at Mathura and Braj:

  • Krishna and Hanuman. A journey that joins Krishna at his birthplace in Mathura with Hanuman at Mehandipur Balaji lets a devotee take the darshan of both the Lord and his great devotee in one trip.

  • The Braj sites. At the Mathura end, the Krishna Janmabhoomi, the Dwarkadhish temple and the Yamuna ghats and nearby Vrindavan with Banke Bihari, make a full pilgrimage before or after the drive to Rajasthan.

  • Planned together. Because the two lie only about 120 km apart, they fold naturally into a two or three-day trip, which we can plan and drive for you from Mathura.

See the krishna janmabhoomi, dwarkadhish temple and braj yamuna ghats and leela sites in Mathura and the banke bihari temple in Vrindavan; our mathura vrindavan tour itinerary helps plan the Braj portion.

Best time to visit and tips

  • October to March is the most pleasant season for the drive and the darshan, with cool, comfortable weather.

  • Tuesdays and Saturdays, the days of Hanuman, are especially auspicious at Mehandipur Balaji, though also the most crowded.

  • Learn and respect the temple's customs and offerings on arrival or go with someone who knows them and approach with reverence.

  • Start early for a day trip, as it is about three hours each way; an overnight lets you travel and worship without rush.

  • Agree the cab fare beforehand or ask us for a quote and keep your belongings close in the crowds at the temple.

We arrange comfortable cabs and guided trips from Mathura to Mehandipur Balaji and can pair the journey with the darshan of Krishna in Braj, with a comfortable vehicle and a guide who knows the roads. A shared day tour in Braj starts from around ₹1,499 per person, with darshan free at the Braj temples. Our mathura vrindavan tour covers Mathura and Vrindavan, our vrindavan tour package Vrindavan in a day and the braj 84 kos yatra the whole of Braj. For the darshan hours at the Braj temples, see our mathura vrindavan temple timings guide; message me on WhatsApp at +91-7302265809 to arrange your trip.

"We booked the Same Day Govardhan Barsana Tour Package and had a beautiful spiritual experience. The itinerary was well planned, and we were able to visit the important places around Govardhan and Barsana without feeling confused about the route. Experience My India handled the transportation smoothly, while Gurudutt ji was polite and helpful throughout the day. Govardhan, Radha Kund and the peaceful surroundings were wonderful, and visiting Radha Rani Temple in Barsana was the highlight for our family. A very satisfying one-day pilgrimage."

We visited Krishna Janmabhoomi, Banke Bihari and Prem Mandir, followed by Govardhan and Barsana. Experience My India coordinated the travel very well, and Gurudutt ji was patient and supportive throughout the journey. The trip was busy but comfortable, and we never felt that important places were being skipped."

"We had an excellent experience with the 3 Days Mathura Vrindavan Tour Package. Three days gave us enough time to enjoy the pilgrimage without rushing from one temple to another. We spent the first day in Vrindavan, visited Mathura and Gokul on the second day, and then explored Govardhan, Barsana and Nandgaon on the third day. Experience My India managed the transportation smoothly, and Gurudutt ji was knowledgeable, courteous and very helpful throughout. The final day around Govardhan and Barsana was especially memorable and made the whole Braj journey feel complete."
