Vrindavan to Agra Distance: Routes and How to Travel

By Gurudutt, Experience My India·12 September 2026

Vrindavan to Agra Distance

Quick Answer

The distance from Vrindavan to Agra is about 69 km, and the drive takes roughly one hour and forty-five minutes, most directly on NH 44. It is one of the most rewarding short journeys in north India, pairing the devotion of Krishna's Vrindavan with the marble splendour of the Taj Mahal at Agra. The return, Agra to Vrindavan, is much the same, about 70 km. It makes an easy day trip, and the road passes near Mathura, so many travellers see all three, Vrindavan, Mathura and Agra, on one journey. All times are approximate and depend on traffic; note the Taj is closed on Fridays.

Vrindavan to Agra distance: an overview

From Vrindavan, the town of Krishna's childhood, the Taj Mahal at Agra lies about 69 km to the south-east, an easy hour and three-quarters by road on NH 44. It makes one of the most rewarding short journeys in north India, moving from the living devotion of the temple town to the marble splendour of the wonder of the world. Most travellers make the trip by car and the road passes close by Mathura, so many see the birthplace of Krishna along the way and take in all three, Vrindavan, Mathura and Agra, on one journey. If you would like the Taj and Braj planned and driven together, a mathura vrindavan tour package with Experience My India can arrange it.

From the ground (Gurudutt): Many of my guests love to pair the Taj with Braj and from Vrindavan it is an easy run, under two hours. I tell them: see the Taj in the cool of the morning, remembering it is closed on Fridays and keep the evening for the Yamuna aarti back in Braj; or do Braj first and Agra the next day. Monument and temple, marble and Krishna, in one short journey. Take the NH 44 road, the direct way. Radhe Radhe. See our Mathura Vrindavan tour Package  or message WhatsApp +91 7302265809.

Vrindavan to Agra: the routes

There are three main ways to drive from Vrindavan to Agra. The options, with approximate distance and time:

Route

About 69.3 km

About 1 hr 44 min

Via NH 44 and NH 19

About 69.6 km

About 1 hr 44 min

Via NH 44 and Kailash Marg

About 73.9 km

About 2 hr 9 min

The NH 44 route is the fastest and shortest at about 69 km and under an hour and three-quarters; the route joining NH 19 is much the same and the Kailash Marg route a little longer. Times are approximate and depend on traffic; please check live maps before you set off.

The return: Agra to Vrindavan

The return, Agra to Vrindavan, is much the same, about 70 km and an hour and a half to two hours, again most directly on NH 44, which links Agra, Mathura and Vrindavan. For the return leg in full detail and the Agra-to-Braj journey from the Agra side, see our agra to vrindavan distance guide, which covers that direction; this page covers the Vrindavan-to-Agra journey and the two together give the round trip.

About Agra and the Taj Mahal

Agra, the destination, is one of the great heritage cities of India:

  • The Taj Mahal. The white marble mausoleum built by the Mughal Emperor Shah Jahan in memory of Mumtaz Mahal, one of the wonders of the world and a UNESCO World Heritage Site, of surpassing beauty; note it is closed on Fridays and its ticket is separate and paid.

  • Agra Fort and Fatehpur Sikri. The great red-sandstone Agra Fort, another UNESCO site, and, about 40 km from Agra, the abandoned Mughal capital of Fatehpur Sikri, with the Buland Darwaza and Salim Chishti's tomb, are rewarding additions.

  • Best early or late. The Taj is loveliest in the soft light of early morning or the late afternoon; carry ID, check the current timings and rules and allow time for the security and the queues.

How to travel and combine with Mathura

For this short journey and the fuller circuit, the choices are simple:

  • By car (best). A car covers the 69 km in under two hours on NH 44, with the freedom to set your own pace and to stop at Mathura on the way; most travellers pair the Taj and Braj by road. Fares vary, so ask us for a live quote.

  • Combine with Mathura. As the road passes close by Mathura, the birthplace of Krishna, about 14 km from Vrindavan, many travellers see the Krishna Janmabhoomi and the Dwarkadhish temple on the way to or from Agra, taking in all three towns.

  • Vrindavan, Mathura and Agra together. The three make one of the finest short circuits in north India, pairing the marble monument with Krishna's birthplace and childhood over two or three days.

See the krishna janmabhoomi and dwarkadhish temple in Mathura on the way and in Vrindavan the banke bihari temple, prem mandir vrindavan and iskcon temple vrindavan; our mathura vrindavan tour itinerary helps shape the days.

Best time to visit and tips

  • October to March is the most pleasant season for both the monument and the temples, with cool, comfortable weather.

  • The Taj Mahal is closed on Fridays and its ticket is separate and paid, so plan around that and carry ID.

  • See the Taj in the cool early morning and keep the evening for the Yamuna aarti back in Braj if you return the same day.

  • At the Krishna Janmabhoomi in Mathura, phones, cameras and bags are not allowed inside, so plan to leave them with your vehicle.

  • Agree the taxi fare or the day-hire rate beforehand and allow time for the Taj's security, queues and parking.

We plan and drive the Vrindavan, Mathura and Agra journey, pairing the birthplace and childhood of Krishna with the wonder of the world, with a comfortable vehicle, the temple darshan and the e-rickshaw arranged and a Braj-born guide. A shared day tour starts from around ₹1,499 per person, with darshan free at the temples and monument tickets separate. Our agra mathura vrindavan tour package covers Agra and Braj over three days, our mathura vrindavan tour the twin cities and the braj 84 kos yatra the whole of Braj; for the darshan hours, see our mathura vrindavan temple timings and for getting around our how to commute in vrindavan guide. "We booked the Same Day Agra Mathura Vrindavan Tour Package for a family trip and had a wonderful experience. The combination of Agra, Mathura and Vrindavan made the day special because we could enjoy both the Taj Mahal and the spiritual atmosphere of Braj. The route was planned well, and we did not have to worry about the travel arrangements. Experience My India managed everything smoothly, while Gurudutt ji was polite, helpful and available whenever we needed assistance. It was a busy day, but the experience was absolutely worth it."

"Our 2 Days Mathura Vrindavan Govardhan Barsana Tour Package was a beautiful family pilgrimage. We liked the way the itinerary combined the famous temples of Mathura and Vrindavan with the peaceful sacred places around Govardhan and Barsana. Banke Bihari Temple, Krishna Janmabhoomi, Govardhan and Radha Rani Temple were the highlights for us. Experience My India handled the transportation very well, and Gurudutt ji was courteous and supportive throughout the journey. The trip was well organised without feeling unnecessarily rushed."

"We had an excellent experience with the 3 Days Mathura Vrindavan Tour Package. Three days gave our family enough time to enjoy the important temples at a comfortable pace and also visit the wider Braj region. We explored Vrindavan, Mathura and Gokul, followed by Govardhan and Barsana. Banke Bihari Temple and Krishna Janmabhoomi were especially memorable for us. Experience My India coordinated the entire journey smoothly, while Gurudutt ji was patient, polite and very helpful. The relaxed schedule made the pilgrimage much more enjoyable."
