Why Braj is not a detour
Open a map of the Golden Triangle and the thing that strikes you at once is that Mathura sits on the line between Delhi and Agra, not beside it. The Yamuna Expressway runs from the capital past Braj and on to Agra, so the drive you were already making passes the door.
