Nand Bhavan in Gokul is not simply a temple - it is the courtyard where Nand Baba and Yashoda Maiya raised Lord Krishna as their own child. It is where the Namkaran ceremony of Krishna and Balaram was performed, where the Damodar Leela unfolded and where the air still carries the feeling of a lived, loving home rather than a monument built to impress visitors. For any pilgrim doing the Braj circuit, Gokul Nand Bhavan is a darshan that stands apart.
I am Gurudutt, born and raised in Braj Bhoomi and the founder of Experience My India. Since 2018, I have personally guided more than 50,000 pilgrims through Mathura, Vrindavan, Gokul, Govardhan and the full Braj parikrama. Gokul is one of the quietest and most overlooked stops on the Braj circuit - and Nand Bhavan is its heart.
In this guide, you will find the confirmed Gokul Nand Bhavan temple timings for both summer and winter, the aarti schedule, exact distance and route from Mathura, what to expect inside and the ground-level realities that most online guides skip entirely.
What Is Nand Bhavan Gokul?
Nand Bhavan - also known locally as Nand Rai Bhavan - is the sacred home of Nand Maharaj, the foster father of Lord Krishna, situated in Gokul, approximately 10–12 km from Mathura. The temple complex has a large central courtyard where devotees gather for darshan and aarti. The walls inside are painted with scenes from Krishna's childhood - butter stealing, the Damodar Leela, the Nandotsav celebration.
The presiding deity here is the divine pair of Nand Baba and Yashoda Maiya alongside infant Krishna. Unlike the grand marble structures of Vrindavan, Nand Bhavan retains the feel of an actual home from Braj's past. The courtyard is open, the atmosphere is unhurried and the darshan - particularly in the morning session - is intimate in a way that larger, busier temples rarely are.
At Experience My India, we include Nand Bhavan Gokul in our Mathura Vrindavan Tour Packages because no Braj circuit is complete without it. Call +91-7302265809 if you want to know how to fit Gokul into your pilgrimage plan.
Gokul Nand Bhavan Temple Timings - Summer and Winter
The Gokul Nand Bhavan temple timings follow a two-session pattern every day, with a midday closure for the bhog offering. The temple is open seven days a week throughout the year, with no weekly holiday. Timings shift between the summer and winter schedules.
Session | Summer Timings (April–September) | Winter Timings (October–March) |
Morning Session | 5:00 AM – 12:00 PM | 5:30 AM – 12:00 PM |
Afternoon Closure | 12:00 PM – 2:00 PM | 12:00 PM – 2:00 PM |
Evening Session | 2:00 PM – 9:00 PM | 2:00 PM – 8:30 PM |
Weekly Holiday | None - open all 7 days | None - open all 7 days |
Entry Fee | Free for all devotees | Free for all devotees |
Important: During Janmashtami, Nandotsav and Holi, the temple remains open for extended hours and sees significantly higher footfall. Timings on these dates can shift - Experience My India's guides at +91-7302265809 track these changes and update pilgrims the morning of the visit.
Practical note: The 12:00 PM – 2:00 PM midday closure is firm on regular days. Pilgrims who arrive at 12:30 PM expecting a quick darshan will find the gates shut. Plan your visit to arrive no later than 11:00 AM for the morning session or from 2:30 PM onward for the evening session.
Aarti Timings at Nand Bhavan Gokul
The daily aarti at Nand Bhavan Gokul is conducted twice - once in the morning and once in the evening. There is no fixed "performance" style here; the aarti is conducted as a daily devotional ritual by the temple priests and the atmosphere during both sessions is calm and close.
Aarti | Approximate Time |
Mangala / Morning Aarti | 5:00 AM – 5:30 AM (Summer) / 5:30 AM – 6:00 AM (Winter) |
Bhog Aarti (before midday closure) | 11:30 AM – 12:00 PM |
Sandhya / Evening Aarti | 7:00 PM – 7:30 PM (Summer) / 6:30 PM – 7:00 PM (Winter) |
Shayan Aarti (closing) | 8:30 PM – 9:00 PM (Summer) / 8:00 PM – 8:30 PM (Winter) |
The morning aarti, attended at the opening of the temple, is the most intimate session of the day. Footfall is low, the courtyard is cool and the conch and bells carry clearly across the open space. The Sandhya aarti in the evening is more attended - families visiting after the afternoon heat has passed, lamps lit across the courtyard, a slower and more reflective energy than the busier temples of Vrindavan.
Experience My India's Gokul darshan itinerary, included in our 3 Days Mathura Vrindavan Tour Package, is timed to arrive at Nand Bhavan before the morning aarti on day two of the circuit. Call +91-7302265809 to confirm the schedule for your travel dates.
How to Reach Nand Bhavan Gokul from Mathura and Vrindavan
Gokul sits on the eastern bank of the Yamuna, 10–12 km from Mathura city centre. The route from Mathura crosses the Gokul Barrage - a distinctive landmark - and enters the quieter lanes of Gokul town.
Starting Point | Distance to Gokul | Typical Travel Time | Transport Options |
Mathura Junction (Railway Station) | 10–12 km | 25–35 minutes | Auto-rickshaw ₹100–₹150 one way; cab ₹250–₹350 |
Vrindavan (Banke Bihari area) | 20–22 km | 45–60 minutes | Cab ₹400–₹550; no direct e-rickshaw |
Agra | 70 km | 90–105 minutes | Car/cab only |
Delhi (via Yamuna Expressway) | 160 km | 2.5–3 hours | Car/cab only |
Route note: From Mathura, take the Mathura–Gokul road via Gokul Barrage. Google Maps shows this as a 20–25 minute drive; in practice, add 10–15 minutes for traffic near the barrage and at the Gokul town entry. Private cars can reach up to the temple parking area - Nand Bhavan's lanes are wider than Vrindavan's old town, so vehicle access is better.
Pilgrims combining Gokul with Mathura darshan in a single day should complete Mathura (Krishna Janmabhoomi, Dwarkadhish, Vishram Ghat) in the morning session (6:00–11:00 AM), travel to Gokul by 11:30 AM and either catch the end of the morning session or rest and return for the 2:00 PM evening opening.
Experience My India handles all transport logistics in our Same Day Gokul Mathura Vrindavan Tour. If you want Gokul included in a single-day plan, call +91-7302265809 - we will tell you honestly whether it is feasible given your arrival point and time.
Entry Fee and What to Expect Inside
Darshan at Nand Bhavan Gokul is completely free for all devotees. There is no VIP queue, no paid darshan pass and no donation counter at the gate - though a donation box is present inside the complex for those who wish to contribute.
What the complex includes:

The large open courtyard with the ancient banyan tree (devotees tie colored threads on its branches as a form of prayer)
A small shrine of Goddess Yogmaya in the courtyard
The room identified as the birthplace chamber where Krishna and Balaram's Namkaran ceremony was performed
Painted murals across the interior walls depicting Krishna's Gokul childhood
Shoe counter: A free shoe counter operates outside the main entrance. Budget 10–15 minutes for deposit and collection on busy days such as weekends and festival dates.
Photography: General photography in the courtyard and outer areas is permitted. Photography directly of the main deity during aarti may be restricted at the priest's discretion - follow the guidance of temple staff or ask before raising your phone.

July–September (Monsoon) | 28°C–34°C, moderate crowds, lush green surroundings | ✅ Good, roads can be wet |
Janmashtami (August) | Extended hours, massive crowds, midnight celebrations | ✅ Spiritually charged, plan for 3–5 hour queues |

If you are visiting during Janmashtami or Nandotsav, contact Experience My India well in advance at +91-7302265809. Our team plans Gokul stays with confirmed accommodation near the temple for festival visits - regular day-trip planning does not work during these dates.

Ground Truth - What Nobody Tells You Before You Visit Gokul
After guiding 50,000+ pilgrims through Braj since 2018, including hundreds through Gokul, here are the realities that most online guides do not mention:
1. The 2:00 PM opening is earlier than most people expect - and worth using. Most pilgrims assume the evening session starts at 4:00 PM or 5:00 PM because that is what Vrindavan temples do. At Nand Bhavan Gokul, the evening session opens at 2:00 PM in both summer and winter. A pilgrim who finishes Mathura darshan by noon can reach Gokul by 1:30 PM, rest briefly and enter the temple at 2:00 PM in a genuinely quiet atmosphere.
2. Gokul is not Vrindavan - and that is the point. Vrindavan's lanes are narrow, noisy and crowded even on ordinary weekdays. Gokul moves at a completely different pace. The streets are wider, the footfall is lower and the temple courtyard actually has space to stand and take in the surroundings. First-time pilgrims often arrive expecting Vrindavan's energy and find something quieter - that quietness is not a disappointment; it is Gokul's nature.
3. Distance on Google Maps looks short; actual travel from Vrindavan takes 45–60 minutes. The 20–22 km from Vrindavan to Gokul routes through Mathura city traffic, across the Gokul Barrage and into narrow town lanes near the temple. Allow 60 minutes minimum if you are starting from Vrindavan.
4. Nandotsav is a better visit than Janmashtami for most pilgrims. Janmashtami at Gokul draws enormous crowds - queue times of 3–4 hours are common, the streets are packed and the experience can feel overwhelming. Nandotsav, the day after Janmashtami, celebrates Nand Baba's joy at receiving his son. Crowds drop by roughly 40%, sweets are distributed freely and the atmosphere - celebratory but calmer - is easier to absorb and remember.
5. The banyan tree in the courtyard is a darshan in itself. Most pilgrims focus entirely on the main sanctum and leave. The ancient banyan tree in the open courtyard, with thousands of coloured threads tied by decades of devotees, sits in a corner that visitors often walk past quickly. Spend 10 minutes there - it is one of the most quietly powerful spots in all of Gokul.
Call +91-7302265809 and speak with Gurudutt or the Experience My India team before your visit. We will tell you what is happening at Gokul on your specific dates - any festival overlaps, accommodation near the temple and the best window for your darshan.
Plan Your Gokul Darshan with Experience My India
Nand Bhavan Gokul holds a quality of stillness that busier temples in Vrindavan do not. The darshan here is unhurried, the courtyard is open and the mythology is specific to this ground - this is where Krishna was brought across the Yamuna, where his childhood unfolded and where the name that the world now knows was given to him.
Getting the timing right is the first requirement. Arrive before 11:00 AM for the morning session or from 2:30 PM for the evening session. Avoid the 12:00 PM–2:00 PM midday closure entirely. For festival dates - especially Janmashtami and Nandotsav - plan for larger crowds and confirm timings the morning of your visit.
Experience My India includes Gokul Nand Bhavan in our 3-Day and 4-Day Braj circuit packages. Our guides - born in Braj, guiding since 2018 - know the temple's daily rhythm, the right entry sequence and which session gives you the most settled darshan experience.
Tour packages including Gokul start from ₹1,999. Our rating is 4.5★ from 204+ pilgrims.
